The UK is demonstrating global leadership in transforming the plastics economy and tackling plastic pollution through The UK Plastics Pact.
Mi Hub has joined industry leaders and stakeholders across the global Plastics Pact network tackling plastic pollution to help transform the plastics packaging system, develop plans to realise a circular economy for plastics, and meet net-zero objectives.
By 2025, The UK Plastics Pact will transform the UK plastic packaging sector and help stop plastics polluting the environment:
- Actions to eliminate problematic or unnecessary single-use packing items through redesign, innovation or alternative (reuse) delivery models
- 100% of plastic packaging to be reusable, packaging recyclable or compostable
- 70% of plastic packaging effectively recycled or composted
- 30% average recycled content across all plastic packaging
As a UK Plastics Pact associate member, Mi Hub commits to working towards delivering these targets by:
- Eliminating unnecessary and problematic packaging and plastic products
- Ensuring all plastic packing is able to be effectively recycled at scale
- Using recycled plastics in our packaging and products where possible
How does this help our customers?
Our membership allows us share the benefits with all Mi Hub brand customers including, Dimensions, Alexandra, Yaffy and Affinity.
- Tackle the impact of plastic pollution through their uniform supplier who are demonstrating support in the move to a circular economy
- Get on the front foot and prepare for legislation, pending Government and Global Plastics Treaty legislation
- Future proof their business and uniform solution by adapting to a changing market
- Measure and target their impact
- Work in collaboration, share and apply best practice and focus efforts whilst sharing insights on common issues
Why is it so important?
- The current plastics system – take, make, dispose – creates unnecessary waste that often ends up polluting the environment.
- We need to take a systemic approach to tackling the causes of plastic waste, not just the symptoms.
- Pressure is mounting to find a solution to the plastic waste problem. Businesses, NGOs, policymakers and others need to work together to affect real change.
- Plastic is a valuable resource and plays a huge role in our UK economy but the current system has negative consequences for the environment and is not resource-efficient.
What is the UK Plastics Pact?
The UK Plastics Pact is a bold initiative that will transform the UK’s plastic system. By bringing together the entire plastics value chain behind a common set of ambitious targets, it will move us towards a system which keeps plastic in the economy and out of the environment.
It will encompass innovation, research and new business models to rethink and redesign what packaging we put on the market in the first place, and how we can encourage more re-use of packaging.
The initiative is unique because it unites governments, local authorities, NGOs and businesses involved in producing, selling, collecting and reprocessing plastic, to deliver ambitious targets for change by 2025. It is also underpinned by government policy and citizen action.
