A Blooming Space: Our Biodiversity Garden is Now Open
Mi Hub HQ's biodiversity garden and seating area is opened earlier this year. Situated to the side of the building, this thoughtfully designed outdoor space brings nature closer to our everyday work life, complete with wildflower beds, solitary bee houses, and sustainable seating.
More than just a pleasant spot to eat lunch or hold a meeting in the nice weather, the garden is a key part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability and biodiversity.
Designed with Nature in Mind
Our new wildflower planters are bursting with native perennials, specifically chosen to attract pollinators and support local wildlife. Think vibrant purple toadflax, wild foxglove, lemon balm, and dames violet, all selected and planted under the expert guidance of Kate Lemon, Rewilding Delivery Manager at Derbyshire Wildlife Trust. Each plant was chosen for its ecological benefits, with careful consideration for colour, height, and spread.
The project was coordinated by our ESG team and brought to life by a team of enthusiastic Mi Hub volunteers working alongside Derbyshire Wildlife Trust.
Supporting Our Biodiversity Goals
As part of our group-wide ESG strategy, Mi Hub’s Biodiversity Policy outlines our commitment to making our office spaces sustainable, resilient, and nature-friendly. We’re proud to be taking clear, visible action, creating environments that benefit both people and the planet.
From wildflower beds to the addition of solitary bee houses, we’re creating a welcoming habitat for a wide range of pollinators and insects, which are essential to maintaining the balance of nature.
Innovative Beehouses from Recycled Uniforms
Our new solitary bee houses do more than provide a home for bees. They also support our Circular Bi Design strategy. Each beehouse is made from at least 75% recycled garments and a plant-based resin, giving end-of-life clothing a new, meaningful purpose.
As part of our circular approach, we offer customers the opportunity to return uniforms when they reach the end of their life. These garments are never sent to landfill. Instead, they are recycled, recovered, and repurposed into innovative products like our beehouses.
Sustainable Seating for Everyone to Enjoy
Two eight-seater benches complete the space, offering colleagues a place to sit, relax, or meet outdoors. These aren’t just any benches, they’re made from recycled plastic that would otherwise have ended up in landfill or incineration. The process involves recycling, reprocessing, and remanufacturing the plastic into durable, low-carbon “plastic lumber.”
The benches are maintenance-free, splinter-resistant, and built to last up to 50 years! That's ten times longer than a typical timber bench. Even better, they’ll be recycled again at the end of their life, keeping them within a closed-loop cycle.
