About Half the Story
Half the Story is a social enterprise employing people facing major barriers to work- including homelessness. Everyone is paid the real Living Wage and offered holistic support like coaching and mentoring.
Homelessness is a complex issue; finding somewhere to live is just the beginning. To thrive, people need support in finding and keeping a job. Anyone who has spent time sleeping on the streets will face complex barriers when seeking long-term employment. By providing people with a job with sufficient hours and wages, Half the Story empowers those in their trust to start a new chapter in their lives.
Working with trusted referrers such as the NHS and charities specialising in supporting those struggling with addiction and homelessness, Half the Story makes a real and lasting difference to someone’s life.
The proof is in the pudding (or in this case, the biscuit).

Kat’s Testimony
Kat came to the UK from Ukraine due to the war. She was able to stay with a distant relative but was struggling to find meaningful work. In Ukraine she had been working as an architect but found herself both overqualified and under-experienced here:
“I needed a job and a safe place to come to my senses from all those unexpected changes. I heard about Grace Enterprises as a company that cares about people. And now I see that it is so. People are treated as people and not as a resource.
Finding a job can be a very mentally challenging task. This creates a closed circle: anxiety did not allow me to present my capabilities in the labour market fully, and the lack of work creates greater pressure on my mental state. And Half of the Story broke that circle for me.”
Kat has proven to be an invaluable team member and has been promoted to Bakery Supervisor. The job is helping her move towards her long-term goal of working in architecture.
Sam’s Testimony
Before starting at Half the Story Sam said he was "at a loose end."
"I was struggling to find a job that supported my needs, as I am autistic. Previous job placements had failed because I didn’t get much support or training to cope with those additional needs."
Working at Half the Story Sam says; "I have liked learning new skills; I have lovely work colleagues... I feel comfortable and encouraged there. The staff have been really helpful and have given me lots of advice and encouragement. They are very interested in me as a person."
This job has given me confidence and a sense of purpose again. It's given me a regular weekly routine back too."
Sam is a wonderful example of a life transformed through supportive employment, part of our work family and a great friend!
