Carbon is the generic term used to describe the 7 different greenhouses gases. Greenhouse gases trap heat in our atmosphere, causing global warming and climate change. Human activities are responsible for almost all of the increase in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere over the last 150 years and we all have a responsibility to reduce our carbon footprint; the measurement in tons of how much carbon we produce.

Mi Hub feels strongly that all businesses need to be responsible for the carbon they produce, and should work to minimise it wherever possible. To show our commitment, we have committed to undertake the internationally recognised standard of PAS 2060 to help verify the accuracy of our carbon neutrality.

The British Standards Institution released the PAS 2060 standard in 2010, with an update in 2014. This standard empowers organisations to validate and enhance the credibility of their claims of carbon neutrality, instilling greater confidence in customers. It offers guidance on the quantification, reduction, and offsetting of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions within specific business domains, encompassing activities, products, services, buildings, projects, cities, and events. While companies can independently calculate their carbon footprints, purchase credits, and assert carbon neutrality, the PAS 2060 standard establishes a structured framework for precision and certification. This is increasingly crucial as both companies and governments strive towards achieving a net-zero world by 2050.

Developed by the British Standards Institution and implemented in 2010, PAS 2060 presents four key stages to carbon neutrality:

PAS2060 stages

We have chosen PAS 2060 for a number of reasons:

  • It is an independent verification of our accuracy
  • PAS 2060 sets out clear standards for carbon neutrality claims
  • It requires you to go beyond scope 1 & 2 emissions and limit scope 3 emissions to 1% of our total footprint
  • PAS 2060 cannot be met by the purchase of carbon offsets alone and so will drive the reduction in emissions
