Mi Hub's ESG Workshops: Leading the Way to a More Sustainable and Responsible Future
5:06

Throughout the month of September, Mi Hub welcomed its customers to a series of insightful workshop events held at its head office in Castle Donnington. These sessions served as a platform to share Mi Hub’s evolving ESG (Environment, Social, and Governance) strategy and showcase how the group is leading efforts toward a more sustainable and responsible future. The workshops offered practical insights into how these efforts can benefit the wider business ecosystem, helping organisations align their operations with sustainable practices.

The workshops were led by Mi Hub's dedicated ESG Team, who facilitated a collaborative environment. They were joined by guest speakers and experts from the company’s trusted partners, each contributing to Mi Hub's journey towards environmental and social responsibility.

Key Contributions from ESG Partners

Mi Hub's carbon consultant, Auditel emphasised the growing importance of carbon reporting in today’s corporate landscape, explaining how Mi Hub is proactively working to reduce both its own and its customers’ carbon footprints. Auditel detailed practical steps the company is taking to monitor, manage, and mitigate its carbon emissions, demonstrating the ripple effect this can have across the supply chain.

Mi Hub’s biscuit supplier, Half the Story shared how their contributions extend beyond providing delicious treats. They discussed how partnerships like theirs can play a meaningful role in Mi Hub’s broader social value initiatives, illustrating that every aspect of a business can align with a greater purpose.

Half the Story is a joint venture between Grace Enterprises and Green Pastures that support people who have major barriers to work such as homelessness, criminal records, addiction and physical and mental health difficulties.

The Derbyshire Wildlife Trust presented their ongoing collaboration with Mi Hub. They shed light on the various environmental projects the two organisations have undertaken together, focusing on how these efforts benefit both the local environment and staff well-being. By investing in initiatives that positively impact natural ecosystems, Mi Hub is also enhancing employee engagement and morale.

Exploring ESG Trends and Governance

In addition to practical examples, the workshops offered a deep dive into emerging ESG trends. The team introduced Mi Hub’s 2024 ESG Report, showcasing the group’s forward-thinking strategies for the coming year. A core focus was the importance of robust ESG Governance—an essential component of responsible business practices. Mi Hub’s approach includes rigorous internal processes and certifications, such as ISO standards, that ensure the highest level of accountability and performance. Attendees were shown how these certifications not only contribute to Mi Hub’s credibility but also benefit their customers by aligning with their own ESG goals.

Innovative End-of-Life Upcycling Solutions

The team introduced Mi Hub’s new end-of-life upcycling options, and outlined how these innovative solutions offer customers a simple yet impactful way to integrate sustainability into their own ESG strategies. By facilitating the upcycling of materials, Mi Hub is helping its clients extend the lifecycle of their products while reducing waste, making sustainable practices both accessible and actionable.

A Community of Like-Minded Businesses

Beyond the formal presentations, the workshops also served as a valuable networking opportunity. Attendees connected with fellow Mi Hub customers, sharing insights and discussing their own ESG journeys. This collaborative atmosphere encouraged the exchange of ideas and best practices, fostering a sense of shared purpose among businesses committed to sustainability.

Mi Hub's ESG Strategy: Driving Positive Change

Mi Hub takes great pride in its ESG ambitions, which are continuously evolving as the company seeks to make a meaningful difference for both people and the planet. Central to Mi Hub’s mission is the commitment to developing and implementing initiatives that create positive environmental and social impacts.

The company's ESG strategy is built upon four key pillars:

  1. Achieve net zero emissions by 2050 using a verified carbon inventory to show accurate and proven carbon reductions.

  2. Minimise Mi Hub's impact on the environment through environmental management standards, responsibly sourced garments and a 'circular bi design' approach

  3. Be an inclusive employer by offering our people a great place to work and supporting our supply chain to ensure all people are protected with safe and fair working conditions.

  4. Continue to develop our ESG Governance to build strong foundations for a responsible business.

Through these pillars, Mi Hub aims to create lasting positive effects, not only for its own organisation but also for the customers and communities it serves.
