BCI Cotton: Our Commitment to Sustainable Cotton

Written by Mi Hub | 13/02/24 10:59

Mi Hub have been members of the Better Cotton Initiative since November 2022 and are committed to only using BCI cotton from 2025.

To support the Better Cotton Initiative our commitment to using sustainable cotton are as follows:

The BCI's mission

To help cotton communities survive and thrive whilst protecting the environment by; educating farmers, using less water, pesticides and fertilizers and providing training throughout the supply chain.

Proven

BCI has been used for many years in the corporate clothing arena; Mi Hub has long running uniform programmes with clients such as Sainsbury’s and John Lewis Partnership who already support this initiative.

Supply Chain

Most corporate clothing is not made from cotton as a single fibre, but blended together with polyester for durability. As such we need to ensure any solutions around sustainable cotton are feasible throughout the supply chain to ensure availability – the BCI cotton approach is proven to work where fibres are blended and required in large volumes e.g. roll outs.

Creditability

Better cotton is the world’s largest cotton sustainability programme with many well-known brands participating such as Next, Marks & Spencer, Joules, ASDA and Boden.

Commercials

The initiative works on a mass balance approach so whilst there is certification, there is less administration and complexity which means it is currently considered the most commercial solution to supporting sustainable cotton – within both corporate clothing and retail.

Availability

Better cotton is readily available and poses no concerns around availability.
